I've visited here before and had a lovely stay so decided to take the family back for a some days. On arrival I was very disappointed with the booking process as it was not properly done and I was given a different price as to what was discussed via my phone conversation. Was stressful. However, the manager rectified it the following day and apologised. The breakfast was lovely and had vegan options for us. I must say the staff in breakfast area were absolutely nice especially Maria. Also the gentleman at entrance. I forgot his name. Welcoming and efficient. Can't say the same for the Spa ladies. I really wanted to book a few treatment but for me if I walk into a room and don't get a pleasant welcome I'm off immediately. They were not welcoming whatsoever. Not even a good morning or good afternoon. Felt very offended. Is it my ethnicity. I say this because I went to the pool late one evening and a gentleman of same ethnicity as myself said good evening, please sign in to me. It was my 1st actual greeting for the entire week going in there. Had a few issues with the hotel itself. No television in my room which I mentioned to reception and was ignored, not sure if it's because of the mishap on arrival. The water was not going down properly in the bathroom and face basin, again which I mentioned and was ignored, minimal toilet roll, literally had to constantly ask for more, alongside towels. It just wasn't the same service and standards I got on my last visit and especially having a 4 star rating. Agnes who works at reception, Maria in breakfast and the tall gentlemen so sorry I forgot his name and a gentleman at the bar were a few who demonstrated lovely customer service. Nice people. The manager also is doing a good job but in my opinion need to follow up with some of his staff and their people person skills. They need to get a brush up course or something. I won't be going back with my family. I've been to 3 star hotels and got absolutely way better service and cleaner facilities.I would have given 2 stars but there were a few lovely people and because of them I would say it has the potential to get better. Maybe Agnes should be Assistant Manager. She's great.
Staff was nice and the hotel is cozy but the rooms definately need an improvement both in terms of cleanliness and outlook. The rooms were not properly cleaned when we checked in and we found "leftovers" from the previous guests by the bedside. The shower and tap were both leaking to the point that it was almost flooded in the bathroom and the bathroom was generally not as clean as it should have been. Breakfast was okay, could have had a better variety and been better at refilling, but the things they had were good. The bed was very comfortable so that was a big plus. I think this hotel has a lot of potential and small improvements are needed before it will reach it's peak. I can unfortunately not say that it indeed felt like a 4 star hotel when staying in the room we got.

Absolutely lovely hotel. Staff are amazing so welcoming and polite and helpful. Everyone just seems so happy. Rooms are very well cleaned excellent house keeping . My 6 yr old son even wrote a note to the staff on reception to say thank you for a really lovely time.
Very nice hotel. Only bad point I can think of is that because of the layout it can be a long walk from the entrance to your room. The room was to a very good standard. The breakfast was amazing quality with a great selection. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The Gym was an ok size and very well equipped. The restaurant is reasonably priced. We ate before arriving but next time we stay here we will definitely make use of the restaurant for evening meal. Location wise there are plenty of takeaways nearby and a couple of supermarkets a short drive away. Would definitely stay again and definitely recommend.

Me and my wife had date night. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was amazing. We even brought fresh bread to take home. Would recommend pub and restaurant to anyone. Thank you to all at the crown for an enjoyable night. We will be back.
Dog friendly character pub. New owners have increased the selection of ales offering a nice variety. The food available is good quality pub grub.

Lovely location and superb food. Staff were friendly but the pub was very popular and got very busy even on a Thursday lunchtime. Superb outdoor space, internal space a little dark. Good selection of drinks. Really lovely detail being able to see the old mill inside. Highly recommended.
We had our wedding reception at Barton’s Mill - the food, as always, was fantastic, and the staff on the day were incredible – never an empty glass!! Special shout out to Mike who was brilliant both on the day and in the build-up – he helped us organise the day and nothing was too much trouble. Look forward to our 1-year anniversary meal – might even treat ourselves to a night in your new accommodation. If you are looking for a venue for your wedding reception - we would 100% recommend Barton’s Mill.

Mick and Dawn were consummate hosts in this simple, unpretentious Bed and Breakfast. The room and bathroom were clean and tidy. Breakfast, simple, but tasty. The neighbourhood is quite suburban, but within spitting distance of Old Basing and Basing House. Mick can give you detailed directions about how to walk into town if you choose to venture into central Basingstoke. Very good value for money!
Very comfortable and traditional stay - run by a friendly local couple always willing to help and accomodate.

Just exactly what I needed for a weekend conference stay. Very clean and simple. Very freindly and kind service. Great location for town centre and rail station. Good value for money. Thank you, blessings.
The ideal base, spotlessly clean and comfortable, really nice people to deal with, will recommend and certainly visit again. Many Thanks

On visiting the Wessex guest house we found the owner very welcoming. She was very helpful with the dietery requirements that we had. The room was bright and had all the amenities that we required. The ensuite was large , bright and clean. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this guest house to other. We would stay here again.
Jane is so friendly. Good freshly cooked breakfast. Nice and clean. Rooms are a bit tight with 3 beds in. Miss the little things like Hairdryer tho.
If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!
